November 24, 2020Golfers will try just about anything to enhance their performance on the course. But many amateurs often overlook including a proper dynamic warmup before taking the course or the range. The golf swing is a very explosive action, in which the body needs to produce ample force in a very short amount of time for a quality result. Getting the body up to temperature can aid in making sure your muscle elasticity improves for optimal contraction/relaxation of the muscles during the golf swing.
Simply spending 3 to 5 minutes performing basic exercises can increase mobility, stability, and balance. It can also aid in injury prevention and overall mental focus. These mentioned variables ultimately translate to higher club and ball speed in the golf swing. Various studies show that engaging in a dynamic warmup can increase power output by up to 14%!
At SMART Golf & Fitness Instruction, a dynamic warmup is one of the very first objectives our team of fitness trainers teach our students to be fluid in. Dynamic warmup routines are individualized for each member, and make sure to hit home on all of the limiting areas we may find in their initial assessment. A proper dynamic warmup almost always includes activation of the lower body and upper body. It also includes some basic rotation to get you ready for that first swing. Finding the “perfect” dynamic warmup simply does not exist without practice, experimentation and experience.
Your golf buddies may first laugh at you pulling out your mini resistance bands on the first tee, but they will soon follow for the added benefits. Follow us on Instagram to find great ideas for exercises to add to your dynamic warmup before your next round.
